The Music program at Saint Charles Borromeo School consists of:
· Weekly music instruction, stage art, and technology integration in the classroom.
· The Children’s Choir meets once a week for rehearsal and performs at the 8:30 AM Mass every First Sunday of the Month.
· Monthly school Mass with the Children’s Choir acting as the Music Ministry leading the congregation in hymns and responses.
· Evaluation of musical achievements, skills, and knowledge is done through group musical presentations and talent shows.
All Saint Charles Borromeo students have the opportunity to explore music theory and styles. Our program promotes a range of basic theory, digital notation, instrumentation, composition, and performances. Students in all grade levels learn to sing by “Rote to
Note Method” for the young group and note sight reading for the middle-high group. Body movements and hand gestures are used to help our youngest students internalize rhythm and to memorize the lyrics easily.
All the middle school students sing, play Suzuki hand and xylophone bells and learn basic chords and scales. They have the opportunity to explore musical composition using the MuseScore App, music terminologies, and history. Skills and talents of the students are showcased during the Christmas Show, Spring Musical, and the live presentation of the Living Stations of the Cross.
