Why should you choose a Catholic education for your children? Catholic education is rooted in faith, service, and community, among other values.

St. Charles Borromeo Parish School is a tight-knit community among teachers, staff, students, parents, and relatives.

Let's take a deeper look at how a Catholic education is rooted in community in this week's blog entry so that you can make an informed decision about your child's education at a Catholic school near me in Burlington County.

Building Community Between Teachers and Students

The lifeblood of our school is our teachers and staff. Without them, we wouldn't be able to open the doors each day and welcome our amazing students to grow and learn in God.

  • Our teachers and staff help our littlest students in PreK 3 and 4 adjust to being away from home for the first time, through all the tears, and with plenty of hugs.

  • Our teachers and staff genuinely want to hear about everything our students did during their summer, Christmas, and Easter breaks, as well as after every weekend.

  • Our teachers and staff provide a shoulder to cry on when a student is going through a difficult time or has lost a loved one.

  • Our teachers and staff are always available to lend a helping hand with a project, to answer questions, or to provide additional help after a challenging lesson.

  • Our teachers and staff offer recommendations to 8th graders applying to local Catholic high schools, helping them gain admission and receive scholarships.

On top of it all, our teachers and staff know every student in the school by name. A simple 'hi,' high five, or hug goes a long way in supporting our students' development within our community. Our teachers and staff ensure that every student feels heard, valued, and supported throughout their academic journey at St. Charles.

Building Community Student to Student

We love hearing stories from parents of our younger students about the older ones knowing their names. At St. Charles, we build community, student to student, not only within the same classroom/grade level but also through Prayer Buddies.

Older classes are paired with younger ones for the school year. They then meet regularly throughout the year to participate in seasonal and other activities (Christmas, Easter, etc.). Partnering off as Prayer Buddies encourages and supports community growth for everyone, including the teachers who observe the budding relationships first-hand.

As the relationships blossom, the younger students feel more comfortable seeing their Prayer Buddies in the halls, waving to them, and giving high fives as they pass each other throughout the day. Seeing the smiles on the young ones' faces when they realize their Prayer Buddy, or any other student, knows their name is priceless.

During morning and afternoon CARES, all of our students are together. There is no separation between PreK and K-8, or any of the grade/age levels. The students spend time in the same room helping each other with homework, reading stories, coloring, doing crafts, playing games, and enjoying time on the playground.

The Benefits of a Catholic School Community for Students and Parents

Students and parents benefit from choosing a Catholic school community, including the following:

  • The student becomes an active citizen: A Catholic education resonates well beyond graduation, even at the grade school level. The student learns to become an active citizen by volunteering in their community and showing compassion to those they meet.

  • Improved growth on the social and emotional levels: A student who is supported promotes empathy, self-esteem, and the ability to develop positive relationships within their life.

  • A sense of belonging: A Catholic school community provides students and parents with a sense of belonging, knowing that their children are supported, loved, cared for, connected, valued, and safe.
